Carl W. Byerly, Ph.D.
Interim Dean
College of Arts
Dr. Byerly’s duties include development and
administration of the College of Arts and serving
as the Chairman of the music department including the
music education degree, GLU music ministry and the
development of the music education curriculum.

| Dr. Carl Byerly is the Administrator of Fine Arts
at Woodland Park Academy of Grand Blanc, MI and a music
professor at the University of Michigan-Flint . He
is also the director of the national recording artist
performance group the University of Michigan-Flint
Gospel Choir. Dr. Byerly also directs the 100 voice
Flint Community Gospel Choir that performs with the
Flint Symphony Orchestra on the televised Music In
The Parks Concert Series. He is the founder and coordinator
of the Michigan Charter School Fine Arts Camp that
is hosted on numerous university campuses during the
summer season. Dr. Byerly also founded and coordinated
the Midwest Music Ministry Encounter / Crescendo Music
Conference from 1991 to 2001 that featured such recording
artists as Ron Winans, Marvin Sapp, Commissioned, Dan
Willis, Lanny Wolfe, Mickey Mangum, Geron Davis and
more!
Dr. Byerly started his college education at Jackson
College of Ministries and graduated with a Bachelor
of Arts degree in Church Music in 1981. He then attended
Mississippi College and graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor
of Music Education degree. In 1985, Dr. Byerly received
his Master of Arts degree in Music Studies from the
University of Texas-Tyler. He worked on his doctoral
studies at the University of Texas-Austin and completed
his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Choral Conducting
from Clayton University in 1987. Dr. Byerly also has
completed a series of post doctoral classes at Central
Michigan University and the University of Phoenix for
certification as an educational administrator in the
state of Michigan.
With over twenty years of Dr. Byerly’s administrative
and teaching experience at colleges, schools and churches,
many of his performance groups have won numerous awards
and scholarships at both local and national levels.
They have performed for many different types of venues
from a Grammy Award nominated recording to the President
of the United States. One of Dr. Byerly’s most
current groups, the University of Michigan-Flint Gospel
Choir, has released a CD entitled “Colorblind” on
Advance Records of Chicago and was nominated as “most
outstanding choir” for the nationally televised
2002 Gospel Truth Magazine Awards under the direction
of Dr. Bobby Jones. The Choir also performed for the
national 2002 Stellar Awards and the BET and Word Network’s “Bobby
Jones Gospel Hour”. At a recent performance in
June 2004, this Choir performed for the Archbishop
and Nobel Peace Prize winner Desmond Tutu. Dr. Byerly
has lectured and performed at music conventions and
seminars across the United States and abroad. His travels
include forty five states and six continents.
Dr. Byerly currently is a board member of the Grand
Blanc Arts Council and the Bingham Academy of the Arts
in Alpena, MI. He also serves as chair of the music
division of the annual Grand Blanc SpringFest Arts
Festival. Dr. Byerly is a member of the Music In The
Parks Committee for the city of Flint and surrounding
areas. He is an honorary board member of the Gospel
Music Workshop of America. Dr. Byerly is also a member
of the College Music Society, National Academy of Recording
Arts and Sciences and Music Educators National Conference.
Dr. Byerly was recently selected and listed in the
2004 edition of Who’s Who In America and the
National Register of Commended Scholars. He is also
currently writing a book entitled “Gospel Music
In Higher Education”.

Douglas
W. Carpenter, Psy.D.
Vice
President/Chief Academic Officer
Dr. Carpenter's duties include accreditation, governance
of the academic program, and the delivery of the psychology
curriculum. |
Dr. Carpenter received his Doctoral degree in Clinical
Psychology from the Forest Institute of Professional
Psychology in 1998. His dissertation was a comprehensive
analysis of childhood sexual abuse laws across all
50 states entitled Complications in child sexual abuse
definitions and laws. He earned a Master of Science
in Counseling and Substance Abuse Rehabilitation from
Pace University in 1994, Bachelor of Arts in Psychology
from Pace University in 1992, Associates of Arts in
Social Sciences from Westchester Community College
in 1992, and an Associate of Arts in Theological Studies
from Kent Christian College in 1992.
Dr. Carpenter was employed by Forest Institute of
Professional Psychology from 1999 – 2004. The
last three years he served as the Associate Dean/Graduate
Training Director. During his work at Forest Institute,
Dr. Carpenter was a member of Project TERHM (Training
and Enrichment for Rural Mental Health) which was the
recipient of a 2.8 million dollar training grant. As
a result of this grant, Dr. Carpenter became the founder
and Executive Director of the Heart of America Psychology
Training Consortium that serves as the central office
for Psychology interns and residents throughout rural
Missouri.
He holds a license as a Psychologist in the State
of Missouri and is certified as a Health Service Provider.
His specialty areas include substance and behavioral
addictions, trauma, and working with adolescents.
He is a member of the American Psychological Association
and the Missouri Psychological Association. He has
served as a board member of the Association for Directors
of Psychology Training Clinics, and has served as a
delegate to the National Council of Schools and Programs
of Professional Psychology. While a delegate of the
NCSPP he additionally served on the Clinical Training
Task Force. He received the Faculty of the Year award
in 2002 from the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology
and is listed in Who’s Who Among America’s
Teachers 2002. He is also a Church Aflame Institute
Specialist with the UPCI. |

Mary A. Carpenter,
MSW
Development Coordinator/Grant Writer
|
Mary Carpenter graduated from Southwest
Missouri State University with a Bachelors and Masters
in Social Work in 2001. She has been with Great Lakes
University since Sept. 2004. She previously worked
as a medical social worker for Cox Medical Center,
a large Midwest hospital. Prior to that, she worked
as a counselor and case manager for a child/adolescent
psychiatric center. She is the wife of Dr. Douglas
W. Carpenter who serves as the Vice President/Chief
Academic Officer of Great Lakes University. Mary coordinates
philanthropic endeavors of endowments, scholarships,
and grant writing, and she is also a professor of social
work, courses dealing with societal issues, and counseling
psychology. |

Kindra A. Conley, Ph.D.
Assistant Vice President
Dr. Conley's duties include assisting the vice president in the administrative and operational tasks of the university. |
Dr. Conley received her Doctoral degree in Business
from California Coast University in 2002. Her dissertation
was a comprehensive analysis of internet web present
computer hardware vendors across the United States
entitled The Effectiveness of Computer Hardware Websites.
She earned a Master of Science in Health Services Administration
from Central Michigan University in 1995, Bachelor
of Business in Computer Information Systems from Baker
College of Business in 1992, Associates of Business
in Word Processing from Baker College of Business in
1985.
Dr. Conley is an adjunct faculty member at Mott Community
College and Baker College of Business in Flint and
Owosso, Michigan. In these positions, she has served
in the disciplines of Business and Computer Science.
Her work at both colleges has included responsibility
for the planning, development, academic advising, and
delivery of instruction.
Dr. Conley holds certifications for Novell Certified
Netware Administrator and Novell Certified Netware
Engineer.
Dr. Conley has an extensive background in Computer
Science. She has held positions of responsibilities
with Electronic Data Systems (EDS) and Genesys Health
Systems (GHS).
While serving as a Technical Delivery Team Manager
at EDS she accomplished the goal of providing expert
knowledge, improving process structure and improving
quality of service for the Helpdesk, Server Administration,
Security Administration, and Network Support Teams.
During her service at EDS, she provided technical support,
provided managerial direction, and performed critical
oversight activities for Server Administration Teams.
While at GHS, she designed, developed, implemented,
and administered the Information System Training Program.
The program consisted of approximately 60 classes and
served an average of 1000 students per year. At GHS,
she also held the position Sr. Technical Analyst. During
this time she served as the Security Committee Chairman
for the installation of the GHS Cerner Clinical Application
System and as the System Project Manager for the Genesys
Physician Hospital Organization Project.

Chuck Hayes, M.A.E.
Dean of Business
Dean Hayes' duties are the development and administration
of the four business degrees: Finance/Economics, Management,
General Business, and Management Information Systems.
His passion for leadership will be embedded throughout
all of the business degrees to develop Christians that
can use their technical gifts to further the gospel
of Jesus Christ. |
Dean Hayes has a Master of Arts degree in Economics
from Walsh College which he received in 2001 and a
Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration
in Finance from Walsh College which he received in
1996.
He has been an adjunct Professor at Rochester College
for more than two years where he teaches Economics,
Finance, Accounting and Business Law.
With over seventeen years of professional banking
experience, he has served as an Officer in various
areas of commercial banking sales and management. This
experience includes: Private Banking, Institutional
Trust, Treasury and Cash Management, Small Business
Lending and Deposit Services.
Dean Hayes has faithfully served The Apostolic Church
of Christ on their Elder Board for six years as well
as many other areas of leadership, mentoring and teaching.

Rev.
Thomas R. O'Daniel, Ed. D.
Dean of the College of Ministries
Dr. Tom O'Daniel's duties include the development
and administration of the College of Ministries while
serving as a professor of Religious Studies. His passion
is training Apostolics for ministry and leadership,
with 30 years of experience in the field. He has been
a resident instructor at four UPCI Bible Colleges in
America and Africa and has preached or taught seminars
in 28 countries. |
Rev. Tom O'Daniel recently received
his Doctor of Education in Leadership degree at The
Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Previously he
has earned a Master of Arts degree in Social Science
with and Emphasis in Human Resource Leadership from
Azusa Pacific University (1991), a Bachelor of Arts
in Bible/Theology from Global Institute (1987), attended
the University of Washington and Conquerors Bible College,
and has taken graduate courses from the Assembly of
God Theological Seminary and Trinity Evangelical Divinity
School.
Dr. O'Daniel has served as an ordained minister with
United Pentecostal Church International since 1978.
He served as a missionary of the UPCI in Ghana, West
Africa from 1974-78, in Kenya, East Africa from 1980
-89, served as Superintendent of Kenya and Uganda from
1982-89, and served as Official Representative of UPCI
for Rwanda and Burundi. He also served as the Director
of Recruitment and instructor at Conquerors Bible College
from 1979 -80.
He returned from the mission field with his wife
and three sons in 1989 to accept the position of Executive
Vice President and instructor for Indiana Bible College.
While continuing in this position until 2004, he has
remained active in missions, serving in various capacities
with the UPCI Veterans of Foreign Missions, and as
the North American Based Representative for East Africa
on the Africa Team.
Dr. O'Daniel authored the Truth About… series
of nine tracts, and the Discover Wonderful Truths simplified
Bible correspondence course for Foreign Mission Division.
Both of these series have been translated into several
languages and are used around the world. He has been
listed in Who's Who Among America's Teachers (2002) and
is a member of North American Professors of Christian
Education. |

Indira A. Cadasse Petoskey, Ph.D.
Vice President for Institutional
Development/Research & Student Affairs
Dr. Petoskey's job responsibilities include maintaining
GLU’s commitment to a comprehensive program of
educational support services for students and faculty.
She is also involved in University strategic planning
efforts, alumni relations, annual giving and donor
research. |
Dr. Petoskey received her Doctoral in
Higher Education Administration and her Master’s degree in Business
Technology Education from the University of Southern
Mississippi. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in
Business Education and English Education from Pensacola
Christian College. She also received a Bachelor’s
degree in Theology from Indiana Bible College.
Dr. Petoskey was employed by Indiana Bible College
from 1998-2001. She served as an instructor, Computer
Lab Director, and Dean of Distance Learning. She later
became an adjunct instructor at Fox Institute of Business
and served as Student Development Specialist at Manchester
Community College.
She is a pastor’s wife of The Pentecostals in
South Windsor, Connecticut. From 2002-2004, she served
as the Youth Pastor. |
