General Education

The general education requirements are designed to establish a common and coherent educational experience for all Great Lakes University undergraduates. It is based on the understanding that educated persons should possess not only knowledge in a particular field of specialization but also a better understanding of the world around them (where their expertise will be applied and extended) and to become life-long learners. Exposure to a variety of disciplines enables students to develop more diverse areas of knowledge, skills, and abilities to better understand the extensive potential for their Christian leadership to be applied.

General Education Learning Goals

  1. To ensure a breadth and depth of knowledge that promotes current and life-long intellectual inquiry consistent with the understanding of cultural, technological, societal principles and the Apostolic faith.
  2. To understand the basic tenets of mathematics, humanities, social/behavioral/natural and political sciences, American and world history, computer literacy and effective communication.
  3. To cultivate thoughtful and responsible persons and citizens who have acquired the proficiency in skills and competencies that equips them for their respective professional career.
  4. To incorporate both measurable circular patterns and relevant cognitive experiences sufficient to provide the context for advanced/graduate studies.
